CVSR Honors Board Chairman George Snider

CVSR trustees, donors, friends, and staff honored CVSR Chairman George Snider at a reception at Andrew Jackson House in Akron on November 4. George has served on CVSR’s Board of Trustees since 2006 and as Chairman since 2010.

During George’s tenure as Chairman, CVSR experienced its highest ridership year ever (210,493 boardings in 2012), volunteer hours increased by 28% (from approximately 68,000 hours in 2010 to a projected 87,000+ hours in 2015) and major capital improvements were made to the fleet, most recently including a $265,000 renovation of our high-end lounge car “The St. Lucie Sound” and the completion of CVSR’s first fully renovated “green” locomotive.

While it would be impossible to list all of George’s accomplishments as Chairman, a few include: guiding the development of CVSR’s first strategic plan, leading the successful search for a new President & CEO, commemorating CVSR’s 40th anniversary in 2012, and launching the organization’s first multi-million dollar capital campaign.

“George has the tremendous vision for CVSR to become America’s premier excursion railroad,” says CVSR President & CEO Craig Tallman. “Thanks to George’s leadership, CVSR has made significant progress over the past few years in terms of safety, the quality of our facilities and equipment, and total customer satisfaction; we are well on our way to realizing George’s vision.”

Although George’s five-year term as Chairman of the Board concludes at the end of 2015, he will still play an active role in the leadership and governance of CVSR. He will remain a member of the Board of Trustees and will serve on the Executive Committee as Past Chairman.
