All Educational Programs provide hands-on instruction and correlate to the Ohio Academic Content Standards in Life Sciences, History, Geography, Citizenship Rights and Responsibilities and / or Communications: Oral and Visual.
Trip Dates
Programs are offered to schools, daycares and camp programs only on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, March through May. Trips may depart from Rockside Station in Independence, Akron/Northside, Brecksville or Botzum. Departing station depends on availability. Times and stations change daily.

Program Descriptions
All Aboard For Animals
Grades K—3
The All Aboard for Animals program facilitates a journey of discovery and revelation in Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP). Climb aboard Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to explore the natural beauty and cultural history of CVNP through the window of the train. Park Rangers and volunteers will share pelts, skulls and stories of the animals who call CVNP home.

Transportation in Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Grades 4—6
Are We There Yet? Transportation in Cuyahoga Valley National Park explores the history of transportation in CVNP. Students will have the opportunity to view and experience a historical form of transportation while participating in interactive activities. During the program students will explore how different modes of transportation have changed the landscape of the Cuyahoga Valley and the lives of those who have lived and traveled here.
Explore The Underground Railroad
Grades 5—8
Explore the Underground Railroad takes your students on a journey through the harsh realities that were the Underground Railroad. Traveling through an area utilized by runaway slaves, students will participate in hands-on and interactive activities. Join Park Rangers and costumed characters as they draw your students into a complex period of history when individuals used their lives to change the world.
October Fall Color Train
All ages
Climb aboard to ride the rails through Cuyahoga Valley National Park and view the beauty of fall through the window of a vintage train car window. Hear the sounds and stories of the area through the Voices of the Valley audio tour.
This trip follows the scenic schedule. The train can be boarded at Rockside Station (9 am, 12:45 pm or 4:05 pm), Peninsula Depot (9:40 am, 11:20 am, 1:20 pm) or Akron Northside Station (10:40 am or 2:25 pm)

Summer Programs
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and Cuyahoga Valley National Park is pleased to provide activities for summer schools and day camp programs. The educational field trips are full of fun and excitement as student’s journey through time. These programs are offered to school groups, daycares and camps only. Reservations are required.
Canal Camp
Board the train and students will soon be transported through CVNP to the Canal Visitor Center. This canal-era structure and its associated lock will give you a glimpse into the past. Feel the white oak of the whaler gates, marvel at the workings of a canal lock, and explore the exhibits that take you on a journey over 10,000 years in the making.
