The award-winning book comes to life on this magical journey to the North Pole and back. All passengers will enjoy hot cocoa and a cookie, served by your personal chefs in each car. Elves will read the story to you on the way to the North Pole to pick up Santa! While Santa visits each car, elves will lead you and your family in Christmas Carols and spread merriment!
As in the story, we encourage everyone to wear their pajamas on this special journey...but make sure your pockets don't have any holes! This program is only possible through the hundreds of volunteers who give of their time, during a busy season!
Seating is first come, first served and it is recommended you arrive EARLY. Boarding begins at 6:00 p.m. We cannot guarantee your group will be able to sit together, but we promise our core of volunteers each evening will do their best to help you!

Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I buy my tickets?
First, you need to decide the date you would like to ride, and the station from which you would like to depart.
After you have that, Follow these steps:
Select the Purchase Tickets page
Select the date you would like to ride (change the calendar to November or December)
Select the station you would like to depart
Follow the remaining steps to complete payment for your order.
DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION – we will not be able to change your date, departing station, amount of tickets, or offer a refund if you did not choose wisely!
Check to make sure it is for the Polar Express! CVSR does offer a variety of trips and special events at this time of year. Make sure you are purchasing tickets for the correct program!
Check that you have selected the correct station from which you wish to depart! If you go to a station different from where you have tickets, you most likely will not be able to ride as the trains are sold out each night. Your money will NOT be refunded, nor your tickets exchanged!
Thank you for your support of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad – your ticket purchase for this and any of CVSR's events, directly supports the operation and allows us to fulfill our mission statement:
To provide educational and heritage railroad experiences within the Ohio & Erie Canalway and provide alternative transportation to, through and within Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU PURCHASE TICKETS FROM A THIRD PARTY SITE OR VENDOR. There have been issues in the past of tickets being duplicated and not valid, over-priced, etc. If you do not purchase your tickets from CVSR, you do not have an agreement with CVSR. You do not want to be turned away at the station that night because your purchased fradualant tickets.
When do Polar Express™ tickets go on sale to members?
Tickets go on sale to members and volunteers at 12:00 a.m. September 3 through September 30. You must become a member prior to September 3 to take advantage of early purchasing of Polar Express tickets for 2013. Members and volunteers will receive a code that will allow them to purchase their tickets in the mentioned time frame.
What time does the train depart?
Boarding starts at 6:00 p.m. All trains leave promptly at 7:00 p.m. and the ride is a 2-hour roundtrip. Trains will return around 9:00 p.m.
What should we wear?
Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas – many adults choose to wear theirs, too! The cars are heated...so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Why Open Seating?
In order to offer the sale of tickets on-line, it can only be done by number of tickets available. The system does not allow for assigning seats. Given that cars can have mechanical problems, and changes then have to be made, it is the best way to be seated. This year, we will again undertake a theme-park style of seating (odds vs evens) which will make it even easier!
Gifts and Souvenirs
Please plan to come early and visit the concession car. A variety of food items, clothing and souvenirs are available.
Do we get off the train at the North Pole?
No…all activities are conducted on the train.
Are there restrooms?
Yes, on each train car.
Refunds and exchanges
Due to the nature of the event, there are no refunds or exchanges.
Will CVSR donate Polar Express tickets to my event or cause?
We do apologize, but given that CVSR is a not-for-profit, 501 c3, and the sales from this event allow the train to operate through the spring, we do not donate tickets for Polar Express. There is a charity run in which families with children in Children's Hospital, helped by the Leukemia Society, and other organizations are invited to climb aboard!
